(Video) That NJ Ish: Dougie F. Talks Jersey Movement, Mad Decent, White Girls & More On Hot 97

Dougie F x Hot 97_LifeIsTremendez

Right now is such a huge time for Jersey. Over the years, we’ve had an artist blow up here and there, but our state is finally buzzing with SO many talented individuals getting recognition on a large scale at the same time. We’ve got Fetty Wap blowing up with “Trap Queen,” Karen Civil building a freakin’ empire,  Mike Zombie signed to OVO and producing for some of the biggest names in the game (plus rapping crazy too,) Drewski, DJ Naim and DJ Wallah spinning on Hot 97, myself doing what I do (ya diiig,) Joe Budden still being relevant to hip-hop and pop culture, and now Dougie F. blowing up as well with his DJ Fire-produced single, “Back Up On It (Jasmine.)”

Dougie‘s track garnered the attention of Diplo earlier this year, who signed the Orange, New Jersey native to his Mad Decent imprint, and has since brought him on tour to stadiums around the country. As his name grows, Dougie stopped by Hot 97‘s Ebro In The Morning last week to discuss his rise to fame, as well as New Jersey‘s movement, his strong white girl game (LOL!) and more. Check out the interview below, plus the video to “Back Up On It.”

(Video) That NJ Ish: Fetty Wap Talks “Trap Queen,” Being In Love and More On Ebro In The Morning

Fetty Wap_LifeIsTremendez

Jersey, we have another burgeoning star on our hands! As our movement keeps growing with DJs (like Hot 97‘s newest additions, Drewski and DJ Naim,) media personalities (like myself, Karen Civil,) producers (Cardiak, Mike Zombie) and rappers on the come-up like Dougie F and Zombie (he fits here too,) we have another one to add to the list! Paterson native Fetty Wap is taking over the clubs in the Garden State with his breakout hit “Trap Queen,” and hopefully he’ll soon be taking over airwaves around the world with it as well. Now that he’s officially signed to Lyor Cohen, Todd Moskowitz and Kevin Liles300 label, anything can happen!

After Funk Flex premiered what he called the “biggest record in Jersey” on Monday night, Fetty Wap made his way over to Hot 97 to sit down with Ebro and Laura Stylez for Ebro In The A.M. yesterday morning.

The question on everyone’s mind is what happened to his eye, but unfortunately, he chose to remain mum on that for now. He says one day the story will come out, but for now, he likes the mystery and says that the fans seem to appreciate it as well. A quick scroll down his Instagram page shows that it happened in late February of this year, but that’s all we know!

Fetty did, however, reveal the very interesting process to “Trap Queen” coming to fruition, and admitted that he is in love with his girlfriend of a little under 3 years. Sorry ladies! Oh, and he just started music last year. What a start he’s off to, huh? Get the full 411 in the interview below!

Interview: Get To Know DeJ Loaf, Hip-Hop’s Newest “It Girl”

LifeIsTremendez_DeJ Loaf

23-year-old Detroit native DeJ Loaf is experiencing a whirlwind right now, thanks to her song that so sweetly sings about catching bodies and leaving a b*tch n*gga’s head in pasta, “Try Me.” Released on her SoundCloud account in late July just for the hell of it, the pint-sized rapper/singer never dreamed that it would have her in New York City a mere 2 months later, discussing her reaction to Drake quoting it on Instagram or the likes of Wiz Khalifa and her favorite, E-40, hopping on for the remixes. But it has, and now DeJ is gearing up for the ride of her life. Backstage at Hot 97‘s ‘Who’s Next’ showcase for Mila J, Adrian Marcel and BJ The Chicago Kid on Thursday night, I caught up with lil’ DeJ to discuss her upbringing, her style, why the video for “Try Me” was so monumental, what we can expect next…and why you shouldn’t classify her as a singer. Get the full 411 on one of my favorite new artists below!

Music Video: Mike Zombie – 616

Mike Zombie

New Jersey native Mike Zombie was introduced to the masses in 2013, when Drake released his Grammy-nominated single “Started From The Bottom” with Zombie on the track. After discovering Mike in 2012 through their mutual friend, battle rapper Hollow Da Don, Drake signed him to a production deal on his OVO Sound imprint, and as they say, the rest is history.

Most recently, Mike had the likes of the legendary Jay Z, the newly-released Remy MaMeek Mill, Rick Ross and French Montana on one of his beats, courtesy of DJ Khaled‘s “They Don’t Love You No More“…but Mike isn’t only a producer. The talented 22-year-old has been simultaneously crafting his skills as a lyricist for as long as he’s been producing, and has put out numerous projects over the years. Rapping over all of his own beats of course, Mike‘s most recent project was 2013’s The End Of The Beginning, which spawned his current single and video, “616.” Though one would assume the song’s title is in reference to an area code of some sort, it’s actually an ode to a local haunt that Mike and his friends apparently had some epic times at in their late teens.

The video has been spinning on MTV Jams and mtvU for the last month, and is now up to be put in rotation on mtvU with help from fan votes! I hadn’t stumbled on Mike‘s rapping until just recently so I wasn’t going to post the video, but in the spirit of garnering more votes, here it is. Check it out below and MAKE SURE YOU GO HERE TO VOTE! Amazing talent coming out of New Jersey? You know I’m supporting this one!

Mixtape: Kehlani – Cloud 19

LifeIsTremendez_Kehlani - Cloud 19 mixtape cover

19-year-old Oakland native Kehlani is next up. The singer/songwriter, who currently holds down the coveted First Lady role of Bay Area collective Heartbreak Gang and is co-managed by Nick Cannon, comes with powerhouse vocals and content that makes you question how she could possibly be so young but touch on topics that we can relate to at any age.

Her latest release is an 8-track mixtape, with features from her HBK CEO, IAMSU!, as well as singer Kyle Dion. I usually pick one standout track from each project but I’m torn between 2 on this one: “Get Away” and the Su-assisted “Act A Fool.” Listen and download Cloud 19 below. For more info, visit Kehlani‘s official website here.
