Editorial: 7 Things You Should Know By The Time You’re 23

LifeisTremendez_23

This past week, I celebrated yet another birthday. I didn’t do anything special or extravagant – another year passed and I saw how truly precious life can be. The last 365 days have become the foundation of which I’m going to build my life upon, and I’m fine with that. I have been blessed to be surrounded by a loving family and the great staff here at LifeIsTremendez. There are some things in life I’m STILL trying to figure out. We have all had that time in life where we assumed we would be at a certain part in our lives at a certain age and…I’m no different. There are certain things I have yet to accomplish (not living on a futon in my parents basement is at the top of the list). However, I do feel at 23 there are a few things you should know how to do or at least have the desire to learn.

Throwback Thursday: Don’t Give Up! I Actually Got Fired From My College Internship At MTV For Blogging…

My MTV I.D.

(I was totally strategically covering where it said “Intern” on that I.D. for the Facebook stunt, by the way.)

For the last 4 years, I’ve been blogging for InFlexWeTrust, and for the last 3, I’ve made a living off of it. It has opened so many doors for me and given me opportunities I would have never dreamed of being possible, and of course is what led to LifeIsTremendez even being created! I can’t say that I grew up hoping to be a blogger, or actually even ever considered it until a right place, right time situation back in 2010 (which I’ll get into for another TBT,) but all of the events leading up to me being right here has taught me one thing, if nothing else: What’s for you will not pass you.

(Photos) Throwback Thursday: How Dip Set & Saving My Lunch Money Brought Me To A Career In Music

LIT_Marisa Mendez x Dip Set TBT 1

When people say things like, “Dip Set changed my life” or, “I was the biggest Dip Set fan ever,” (yes, people say those things…LOL) I don’t even bother to engage in a debate with them because winning would be too effortless. Dip Set REALLY changed my life. Because of my love (or slight obsession, either one) for them in high school, I chose the career path I embarked on, I met people who put me in the right place to advance in said career and I learned early on how to move around in the music business. Suffice to say, what Dip Set did for me trumps you hands down. Unless you’re like, Freekey Zekey. He probably has a better story than me. Anyway, here’s the 411:

Is Lil Kim Tarnishing Her Legacy Because Of Her Disdain For Nicki Minaj?

LIT_lil-kim-nicki-minaj

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…unless you’re Lil Kim, in which case intimation is the cause for a never-ending feud. For the second time in the course of a week, the veteran MC (and new mother!) has released a diss track (read: struggle song) aimed at her arch nemesis, Nicki Minaj.

“It’s looking like I’m headed back behind bars again/cause b*tches wanna start with Kim and I ain’t with the arguing,” Kim raps on “Identity Thief,” adding, “Anything you try to do, I done did it/ The Queen’s back, b*tches come get it.”

Kim, you are the Queen, yes…but you are certainly not back. In fact, you’re regressing immensely, and it makes us pretty sad because your legacy is one for the books. Where’s the Kim that spit venom on an escalator? Where’s the Kim that rapped about her “Crush On You” while rocking every color wig under the sun? Hell, we’ll even take the Kim that put her “Lighters Up” when she got out of jail in 2005. Between the endless plastic surgery and her apparent obsession with Nicki (who has been the only female raptress since Kim‘s heyday that actually gave her competition for the crown,) it’s looking like the Queen Bee has a very, very deep-rooted insecurity issue.

(Photos) My First Time Behind The Scenes At Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Under The Influence’ Tour…or Any Tour!

Wiz Khalifa x Under the Influence (8/3)

Being a music blogger for over a year now, I’ve done some pretty cool things in the industry so far. I’ve seen my favorite rappers – signed and unsigned – perform, and I’ve gotten to pick the brains of my favorite celebrities by doing interviews, and conference calls. I don’t take any moment for granted, so I was hella pumped when the head honcho of the lovely site, Marisa Mendez, asked me to be with her for a day BACKSTAGE at the New Jersey stop of Wiz Khalifa‘s Under The Influence of Music Tour this past Sunday!

7 Reasons You Need To Attend Wiz Khalifa’s “Under The Influence” Tour Before It’s Over

LIT_main

If you haven’t noticed via all my social media channels, I’ve been along for the ride for a handful of Under The Influence of Music dates thus far, kicking off on July 24th in Scranton, PA. Originally set to feature Tyga as well (before he dropped out in the last hour,) the tour is comprised of 7 sets featuring DJ Drama, Mack Wilds, the HBK Gang (IAMSU! and Sage the Gemini), Rich Homie Quan, Ty Dolla $ign, Jeezy and of course the ring leader, Wiz Khalifa. Even if you’re not fans of all of those acts, there’s something on this show for EVERYONE. To be honest, you don’t need to be a fan of ANY of them to enjoy this tour…although there’s probably something wrong with you if you don’t like a single person in that list of hitmakers.

Review: Lil Wayne in Concert [Newark, NJ]

wayne

This was my first published article online! Back in 2007, I used to post a lot on AllHipHop.com‘s message boards, the “Ill Community.” I befriended one of the mods, Odiesel, and in February 2008, he gave me an opportunity to review the Lil Wayne concert I was attending in NJ.

From there, I interviewed a lot of dope artists for the site, and forged friendships with the owner, Chuck Creekmur, as well as my now-mentor, Kathy Iandoli. Thanks, OD!
