jersey-music-meeting-october-2015

Last night was a night of epic proportions for the entire state of New Jersey. The first official Jersey Music Meeting was hosted by our very own Marisa Mendez and DJ Drewski of Hot 97!

Taking place at Dolce Lounge in Elizabeth, NJ, over 300 people packed out the 2-room venue for an exclusive Q&A session with the most prominent faces of New Jersey including Hot 97 music director, TT Torrez, DJ Bobby Trends, Vin Rock of Naughty By Nature, Itchy House Productions, and OVO Sound producer, Mike Zombie.

Although the event was geared towards musicians, all creatives were invited to show up, ask questions, network, and get answers to their most burning questions about their respective industries. So much knowledge was offered at the event, and incredible gems were dropped about how to further yourself in whatever path in life you choose.

Read on below for the best tips we got from our first Jersey Music Meeting!

CuffingSeason_6

The leaves are changing and the air becomes crisp; everything is pumpkin-flavored and it gets darker earlier. What is it about all these things combined that makes everybody want a somebody? Behind The Lyrics: Lil Wayne Admits To Suicide Attempt As A Child

Free-Weezy-Album-Cover-FWA_LifeIsTremendez

Lil Wayne has long recounted a story of “accidentally” shooting himself when he was 12, playing with a 9 mm handgun. Thankfully, an off-duty cop was around to help young Tune, and he survived to become the rap star he is today. Apparently, that wasn’t the whole story, though!

In “London Roads,” a song from his newly-released Free Weezy Album, Wayne revealed that the shooting was no accident.

LifeIsTremendez Presents: 7 Artists To Watch For In 2015

LifeIsTremendez 7 Artists to Watch in 2015

People send me their music links all day long on social media and in my email, but with a schedule like mine, it’s damn near impossible to ever sit there and listen to it…not to mention the fact that I really don’t care to. Being that I have no interest in being a manager or a publicist, I’m not really scouting for new talent like, ever.

However, there are times when I stumble across new things that I love. Working in music, I meet tons of artists all of the time – some already established, some working their way up. Of the latter, it’s more than just the music that tends to pique my interest, as I pay attention to their social media interaction, their personality, their style, the team they’ve put in place (because NO one can do this on their own,) and their overall brand. There are tons of songs I come across from upcoming artists that I do enjoy, but if the only thing they have going on for themselves is a good song or two, I’m not ready to commit as a “fan” just yet.

That being said, there are a handful of young, hungry artists I’ve met this year, and 7 in particular truly stood out to me. I love putting people on to new music, especially stuff that I am passionate about. Though I’m not an A&R, I do recognize the fact that I’m in a position to shed light on things, and I definitely need people to be checking for these guys! In NO order (though I do go from west to east,) check out our list below of who to watch for in 2015. Remember who told you!

7 Things Your Introvert Friend Wants You To Know

Introverts

Introverts are often viewed as shy, reticent and typically self-centered people, but that is quite the misconception! Sometimes we can mask it pretty well though, and many would have a hard time believing I’m actually an introvert too. I was voted most talkative in my high school superlatives, I’m loud, I’m obnoxious and, let’s face it – I’m pretty hilarious too. However, that is only after I have gotten to know a person and my environment. Otherwise, I come off as the aforementioned shy, reticent type.

Being a blogger FORCES me to go out and network with people on a consistent basis, which gives the illusion that I actually like being in different social settings. The more I get to know different bloggers and artists, I’ve come to realize that many of them too are introverts, and those around them don’t necessarily know how to interact with them. Because we’re ALL tired of being asked “Are you mad?” and “What’s wrong?” a million times while we’re out with you, we’ve put together a list of some FYI’s so that you know what to do with your introvert friends and you can stop annoying us. You’re welcome.

BET Cancels 106 & Park After 14 Years On Air…And I Have So Many Memories From Visiting!

106

It’s the end of an era. After more than 14 years on air, BET will finally say goodbye to its daily music video countdown show, 106 & Park, with the final show on December 19. The network made the announcement yesterday via BET’s President of Music Programming, Stephen Hill.

“We have pride in being involved with the show that has welcomed almost every movie star, music superstar, and fresh-faced talent you can name,” Stephen said. “We’ve all laughed with and been entertained by the young men and women hosts that have charmed us at 6 p.m. (and more recently 5 p.m.) each weekday.”

He went on to promise to remain in the digital world, as well as with their popular specials like their annual New Year’s Eve countdown, 106 & Party.

Though my generation of late 20-somethings have long since stopped watching this program, it’s definitely a feeling of nostalgia, as we were the first audience that they catered to! We’ve watched Free and AJ when we got home after middle school and high school. We felt the emotions when they left. We were annoyed by Tigger and Julissa‘s entrance, and skeptical but eventually delighted by Rocsi and Terrence later replacing them. (It was around then that a lot of us went on to college and kind of grew out of the show.) Literally none of us cared about Bow Wow and Keshia Chanté, and clearly the current audience didn’t care too much either. I wonder if Bow is regretting balling out on Erica Mena‘s birthday last week, now that he’s soon to be out of a job…
