Just before he takes the stage for his first-ever Summer Jam performance on Sunday (which is also his 24th birthday, by the way), Fetty Wap stopped by Hot 97 to chat with Ebro In The Morning this week.

During the interview, Fetty spoke on his newfound fame, the house he just bought , getting “fake” dreads and the flack he caught for it, who really is his “Trap Queen” and more.

On the faux dreads:

They’re real dreads but I didn’t grow them. It’s a lady’s that I know from Newark. She didn’t “give them” to me, she cut her hair off, and she was a powerful person to me. She spoke a lot of positive things to me. You don’t just put anybody’s hair in your head. The funny thing about the whole thing is since I did it, I want to say like the last 50 songs I recorded, they’ve all been some of the hottest songs I did – just from the good energy I’ve been getting.

On putting on for Paterson and not wanting to be a role model:

I’ma just say this – first, I ain’t tryna be no role model for nobody because I got my own kids. It’s just like because when you put yourself in that predicament, people look at you with a certain way, you got to move a certain way, you got to talk a certain way, you got to post certain things, and I’m going to do what I want until I die. But I try to do it in a respectful manner where I don’t disrespect people. It’s like, I try to help my city as much as I could without letting myself fall. I don’t try to put myself out there where they could talk about me too good, and then say if I move out, they’re like, ‘Oh you left us for dead!’ Now I’m the bad guy. Nah! It’s just like I made it up out of the hole where everybody said I couldn’t get from and I’m still tryna put y’all on, but still tryna get myself out of there.
